The Experience

Haines is known for huge, steep mountains caked with untouched powder. It can be intimidating and this is precisely why we created this camp.

Our goal is for women to experience the massive, steep mountains of Alaska in an inclusive and inspiring way. We want women to feel like they can stand on top of a steep mountain that drops off on all sides and feel assured that they can not only ski it safely, but ski it well.

We want you to feel grounded in your abilities to be self-sufficient in the mountains and to have the confidence to call your own shots. Our vision is that through the activities offered at this camp, you can find yourself living beyond what you previously thought was possible–trying new things, skiing steeper lines, and laughing. Endless laughing!
This week offers opportunities to build your skill set to be a better and well-rounded person in the mountains as well as have an amazing experience full of fun and adventure.

You will enjoy 3 days of Heli-skiing, workshops on avalanche safety and crevasse rescue taught by Professionals, athlete coaching, fresh and healthy food (Alaskan King Crab, Alaskan King Salmon, fresh Hawaiian Ahi for Sushi, Halibut, etc), ski touring between Alaska and Canada, Ski/Snowboard movie showings, as well as other activities like snow-machining, hot tubbing, yoga, shing, watching Humpback whales, checking out the awesome town of Haines, and more!

The accommodation is in a cozy log lodge built from the logs from the property itself located right on the Chilkat River surrounded by huge Alaskan mountains.

Itinerary

Each day will depend a little on the weather and so it’s impossible to set out a full itinerary. However here’s rough outline of what we’re going to get up to:

Wake up, stretch, eat a yummy and healthy breakfast, go skiing or snowboarding, come home and do yoga, eat seafood dinner, evening activities, sleep, wake up, repeat.

This camp is special because all of us ladies who are from all over the world come together and give so much of ourselves to each other. We push each other outside of our comfort zones daily by skiing these incredibly terrifying lines. And we ski them well. And we have so much fun doing it because we’re doing it together! I have made some of my best friends going to this ski camp.

I had no idea what to expect when I signed up for the Snow Sisters camp last year. When I showed up I was nervous and intimidated by the mountains and doing something I had always only just dreamed of…But Rhianna, Ashley, and the rest of the ladies at the camp made it so welcome and inviting that I knew I had found a very special community. The event helped me envision myself as not only a better skier, but a more daring person. My time in Alaska was so unforgettable!

It was an incredible experience. A week full of pure joy, excitement, craziness, and adventures. The rest day you wake up at home you’re already missing skiing with those great, inspiring women

Fly into Juneau, Alaska and either take a 30 minute flight over to Haines or a 4 hours ferry ride
Great question. We’ll be resting our bodies. Yoga. Baking. Eating seafood. Crevasse Rescue Workshops. Hot tubbing. Fishing. Avalanche Clinics. Ski Touring. Floating down the river. Watching the all female FULL MOON movie premier with the athletes themselves! Exploring the tiny town of Haines. Waxing our skis. Drinking beer from the local brewery. Having bonfires. The list can go on and on if you come with energy to make it so!
Whatever it is that you think would enhance the experience of others. Dancing Poi Balls to teach a poi class. Extra yoga mats to hold space for yoga classes. The recipes of your favourite desserts. Your essential oil kit. This 9 days will be a collaboration of each of us to help each other grow as skiers/snowboarders but as stronger women too! It is your responsibility to sign up to “host” an evening (via Ashley). What do I mean by “host?” Well we are here to share in each others strengths and passions. You will have the opportunity to share that with other women in the camp on the evening of your choice.
Make sure you send your itinerary to Ashley at ak_ashley@hotmail.com and she will schedule your pick-up and drop-off from Haines
ou are coming to Alaska to ski big lines. You should be comfortable skiing black diamond runs at your local ski area. Sometimes your guide in Alaska will keep it mellow on long, sustained glacier runs, and other times the terrain will be steep and challenging. You should be comfortable skiing everything in between.
DPS Skis has provided demo skis in the past. I would highly suggest you bring your quiver because while demo-ing is available, it isn't ideal when skiing huge lines. Its best to be comfortable on your gear.
Yes, travel insurance is a MUST. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance to cover you for all aspects this trip, including cancelation.
This is a case by case basis. If you cancel one week prior to the event and I can no longer fill that spot, you won’t be getting your deposit back. Sorry. If you cancel at least a month out from the camp start date, then yes, talk to me and we’ll work something out.
